With The Vine now in service, we’re doing our best to help people navigate the new system and answer questions. For reference, below are some topics we’ve addressed both before since the system launched. Got a question that’s not covered here? Send us an email at thevine@c-tran.org.

Where do I board and de-board The Vine vehicle?

Passengers may enter through the middle or rear doors. Wheelchairs are asked to please board through the middle doors, as indicated on the doors and platform tiles. Bikes must enter through the rear of the vehicle, also indicated on the doors and platform tiles. The front door by the driver will remain closed. Also, note that the fold-down seats near the front of the bus are available, but the space may be needed for passengers with mobility devices.

What if it snows?

During adverse weather, The Vine may be served by C-TRAN’s regular 40-foot buses. Drivers will stop at the nearest safe location adjacent to Vine stations.

Does it cost more to ride The Vine?

No. Normal Local/C-Zone fares apply; however, you may wish to purchase a Regional or Express fare if you plan to transfer to other routes.

How do I pay my fare?

Paying your fare on The Vine is different than any other C-TRAN route. The Vine uses an off-board payment system, meaning that you will need to purchase day passes and single ride fares at the Ticket Vending Machines located on each platform before you board. Anyone with a monthly pass will continue to use it as usual.

Are punch cards and tickets accepted on The Vine?

No. Because you pay your fare before boarding The Vine, there is no way to validate these fares.

How does the driver know I paid my fare?

C-TRAN Fare Inspectors will randomly board The Vine to ensure proper fares have been paid.

Can I pre-purchase a single-ride ticket for later?

No. When you buy a single-ride ticket at the platform, the ticket has the date and time stamped on it. It’s intended for immediate use, and can’t be pre-purchased for later. If you buy a Regional or Express ticket for a transfer, there’s a two-and-a-half-hour window before the ticket expires.

How do I secure my wheelchair?

There are three wheelchair bays on each vehicle; two are rear-facing and one is front-facing. Rear-facing bays are self-securing using a drop down bar; however, passengers may also request additional strap securements from their operator. The one front-facing bay requires strap securements from the operator.

How do I use the bike racks?

Bike racks are located inside and towards the rear of the vehicle. Simply lift and slide your bike’s front wheel into the rolling mechanism to lock it into place. To release, simply lift up the roller using the handle.

How often does The Vine operate?

Frequency varies throughout the day, but weekdays it will generally operate every 10 minutes between 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and every 15-30 minutes early morning and late evening. On weekends it will operate every 15 minutes between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. and every 30 minutes early morning and late evening.

How late does The Vine operate?

The Vine operates from approximately 4 a.m. to 1 a.m. weekdays, and 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. weekends. Find the schedule here: http://www.thevine.c-tran.com/images/PDFs/Vine.pdf

Where can I transfer to other routes?

You have several opportunities to transfer to other bus routes along the alignment. Maps with transfer opportunities are posted at every Vine station along the corridor.

Does The Vine serve all stops along the alignment?

The Vine will serve all Vine stops; however, it will not serve regular bus stops.

How does the operator know what’s happening in the back of the bus?

Security cameras are mounted throughout the vehicle, giving both the operator and Dispatch a clear view of anything happening on the bus.

Can I request a stop?

It is not necessary to request a stop. The Vine will stop at all Vine stations.
