C-TRAN offering fare-free service on Dump the Pump Day, June 15

C-TRAN is inviting Clark County residents to “dump the pump” and take public transportation on June 15, 2017, as part of national Dump the Pump Day. To encourage people to ride locally, C-TRAN will provide free service across its entire system for the day.

The fare-free day will apply to all C-TRAN routes and services, including Local, Regional and Express routes, plus C-VAN and the Connector. If you haven’t used public transit before – or perhaps it’s been a while – consider it a good opportunity to give public transportation a try. For our regular riders and pass holders, C-TRAN staff will be at all three major transit centers during the day offering an extra thank you, including free coffee and other giveaways.

Dump the Pump Day, now in its 12th year nationally, encourages people to ride public transportation (instead of driving) to save money. Choosing transit over a daily commute by car can save a household more than $9,000 per year, according to the American Public Transportation Association. But the benefits are more than financial: Transit also provides an environmentally friendly mode of travel that accounts for a huge reduction in carbon emissions each year. Transit can improve traffic congestion. Transit riders can enjoy a more relaxed or productive trip while someone else does the driving. And transit riders are a powerful economic force – a recent APTA study found that nearly 90 percent of public transit trips directly impact the economy.

The C-TRAN Board of Directors approved fare-free service for Dump the Pump Day along with other upcoming special events during its April meeting.
