Vancouver, WA: C-TRAN’s overall ridership continued its recent upward trend last year, tallying 6.2 million total passenger trips in 2018—a 3.2 percent increase over 2017, and the second consecutive year of growth.

C-TRAN’s ridership growth bucks a national trend of declining transit ridership in recent years. Since 2016, C-TRAN ridership has increased 4.63 percent. Local gains have been boosted largely by The Vine, which has seen strongand growingridership since its launch in January 2017. The Vine serves Vancouver’s Fourth Plain corridor, by far C-TRAN’s busiest. C-TRAN is currently planning a second bus rapid transit line on the Mill Plain corridor.

The 6.2 million total ridership recorded in 2018 included 5.9 million fixed-route trips, more than 250,000 trips on C-VAN, the paratransit service for riders with disabilities, and about 35,000 shuttle trips to special events such as the Clark County Fair and the Fourth of July celebration at Fort Vancouver.

C-TRAN constantly tracks fixed-route ridership throughout the year using automatic passenger counters and other technology on board each bus. Numbers then undergo a validation and audit process before they’re confirmed. C-TRAN has completed verification, but ridership data is considered preliminary until audited and accepted by the National Transit Database.

  • 2017: 6,027,683 trips
