Sustainability is at the core of what we do as a public transportation provider. C-TRAN continued numerous sustainability initiatives in 2021, including the purchase of the first all-electric buses in our fixed-route fleet. The C-TRAN Board of Directors approved the purchase of eight all-electric buses in June 2021, and the vehicles are expected to arrive in 2023. C-TRAN also continued testing the use of renewable diesel in our fleet. We plan to explore other alternative fuel options in the coming years as we strive to become a cleaner, greener agency. More than half of C-TRAN’s existing fixed-route fleet are hybrid diesel-electric vehicles.

The C-TRAN Green Team has also launched numerous sustainability projects since it formed as an employee-led group in 2017. In 2021, the group continued ongoing initiatives such as collecting and recycling plastic coffee pods at multiple C-TRAN facilities. To date, the program has recovered more than 680 pounds of coffee pods—roughly 20,000 individual pods—to be made into compost or recycled products. The Green Team also tracked agency printing and paper use throughout the year in an effort to create less waste.

C-TRAN is a certified Green Business in Clark County. For its recent sustainability efforts, C-TRAN was named Clark County’s Green Business of the Year in 2021 for the government and nonprofit category.
